A client reached out recently in need of fast, actionable insights to guide messaging for its innovative new product. The challenge? Deliver high-quality research on a tight timeline and budget—without compromising depth or rigor. The result? The Challenge: Speed, Budget, and Clarity

The client’s marketing and innovation teams were preparing to finalize messaging for a new personal care product that was unlike anything currently on the market. With launch timelines looming, they needed to quickly test a range of claims, headlines, and product descriptions to understand what resonated—and what didn’t.

Our task was to design a study that could:

  • Deliver insights within days, not weeks
  • Stay within a modest budget
  • Provide clear, reliable guidance—not just data  

 

Affordable, High-Quality Research

The Solution: A Streamlined, Qual-First Approach

Rather than layering on multiple methods, we recommended a focused approach: 15 live webcam interviews conducted via the dScout platform. This method allowed for rich, one-on-one conversations while avoiding delays.

Participants were recruited from a mix of prior Home Use Test (HUT) respondents and fresh recruits, ensuring a blend of familiarity and fresh perspective and allowing us to fill the recruit in less than a day. The interviews followed a structured but flexible guide that explored short copy, product descriptions, claims, headlines, and more.

The Insights: Practical, Nuanced, and Actionable

We designed the study to allow client stakeholders to observe interviews as they were conducted. Mini-debriefing meetings between interviews allowed us to nimbly adjust the stimuli and the discussion guide to extend our learnings into new directions as insights were being collected. By the end of fieldwork, the client team was in full alignment on what to do, and the findings were delivered in a concise, two-page summary and debrief session—perfect for fast-moving teams.

The Impact: Fast Turnaround, Real Results

From kickoff to insights delivery, the project moved at breakneck speed. Interviews were scheduled within days of finalizing the guide, and topline findings were shared mere days later. And while the client didn’t have this work built into their budget for the year, we were able to stretch our creativity to deliver maximum results at a fraction of the cost many traditional qual studies demand.

More importantly, the research gave our client the clarity they needed to move forward confidently. Messaging was refined, creative was sharpened, and the team had a clear sense of what “right” looked like.
